PART 1: What is solar, and how does it actually reduce your power bills?
Solar power isn’t magic — but the savings can feel that way once everything’s working as it should.
Here’s the simple version:
Solar panels on your roof generate electricity when the sun’s shining. That electricity powers your home or business first, before you use anything from the grid. So the more solar power you use directly (think running the dishwasher or heating during the day), the less you pay your energy retailer.
Anything extra gets sent back to the grid, and you’ll usually get a credit on your bill — this is called a feed-in tariff. It’s not massive these days, but every little bit helps.
Add a battery, and things get even better. Instead of sending that extra solar to the grid, you store it and use it at night or during blackouts. That means more self-reliance, smaller bills, and less exposure to rising energy costs.
In short:
Use solar = pay less for electricity
Add a battery = use even more of your own energy
Combine both = long-term savings and resilience
Whether you’re a household or a small business, this is about making better use of what hits your roof every day — and relying less on what comes through the wires from the street.
PART 2: Rebates & loans - how the government helps you go solar
There’s a lot of talk about rebates and incentives — and honestly, it can get a bit overwhelming.
So here’s a quick, no-nonsense guide to what’s available right now, and how it actually works:
🔆 1. Solar STCs (Small-scale Technology Certificates)
Federal rebate.
This is built into your solar quote — so you won’t see money changing hands. It’s calculated based on the size of your system and how much energy it’s expected to generate over time.
💡 What it means:
A big chunk off the price of your solar system — usually $2,000–$4,000, depending on system size.
You don’t need to claim it — we apply it to your quote and handle all the admin.
🏡 2. Solar Victoria Rebate (Up to $1,400)
State rebate for eligible homeowners.
If your property and income meet certain criteria, you can get up to $1,400 off your solar system, on top of the STCs.
💡 What it means:
Extra savings on top of the federal incentive.
We’ll help you apply and submit all the paperwork.
💰 3. Solar Victoria Interest-Free Loan (Up to $1,400)
If you're eligible for the rebate, you can also access a matching $1,400 loan — interest-free, paid back over four years.
💡 What it means:
Less upfront cost, and no interest.
Alpex manages the application alongside your rebate — easy.
🔋 4. Battery STCs (Launching July 1st, 2025)
New Federal support for home and business batteries.
This will work similarly to solar STCs, meaning eligible battery systems will receive an upfront discount, applied directly through approved installers.
💡 What it means:
If you're installing a battery after July 1st, expect another meaningful discount off your system cost — especially when paired with solar.
Alpex will handle the claim, compliance, and integration into your system quote.
